Estates in Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, and Wolverhampton blighted by car crime

 

Car crime has increased significantly in the West Midlands in recent years, resulting in more and more families becoming victims of theft. Those residing in high-crime areas are particularly vulnerable to being targeted by thieves.

The region experienced a significant increase in thefts, rising by almost 50% from 8,444 in 2019 to 12,429 last year. On average, around 1,000 motors are now being stolen every month. This surge in thefts is attributed to advancements in keyless technology, which have emboldened criminals and put pressure on law enforcement to respond.

Residents living in high-crime areas are increasingly worried about criminal gangs targeting vehicles. Despite police efforts, these gangs continue to steal, damage, and break into vehicles. Recent analysis of crime data has identified the estates that suffer the most from car crime.

West Bromwich is the car crime capital of the Black Country. More vehicles get stolen or damaged here than anywhere else.

Most recent data from police.uk, from February, shows how crime has been mostly targeted around the Stone Cross area and streets off Trinity Way as well as close to the town centre.

Smethwick is next on the car crime list. Offences are more spread out across this area.

The area around French Wells close to Victoria Park, had 10 reported incidents in February, with another 7 on streets near Lightwoods Park and Warley Woods.

Dudley - While West Bromwich has suffered more vehicle offences over the last year, the Dudley Central area had more during February, where 81 incidents were reported to the police.

Around the B4176 Wolverhampton Street/Himley Road, Kates Hill and Netherton suffer the most.

Walsall - While Aldridge is a more affluent area which suffers lower levels of overall crime, it has had issues with vehicle crime, with residents blighted by crooks targeting their vehicles.  Estates off the main B4152 hard particular problems during February, as well as around the Centre of Aldridge.

People living in Walsall Wood, off the main Lichfield Road, have also been targets.

Wolverhampton - The area of the city where there was the most car crime in February was Fallings Park, Bushbury, Low Hill and Oxley. Crimes were spread out across this part of Wolverhampton.

Areas which suffered the most included streets off Bushbury Lane, towards its junction with Stafford Road and in Oxley.
